If your laundry comes out smelling worse than it went in, the machine is not dirty — it has biofilm. Detergent residue, fabric softener, and trapped moisture feed a thin layer of mould and bacteria inside the drum, seal, and hoses.
Run an empty hot cycle with two cups of white vinegar, then a second hot cycle with half a cup of baking soda. Scrub the rubber door seal, clean the drain pump filter, and leave the door and detergent drawer open between loads. Never mix vinegar and bleach in the same cycle.
